Howell Mars 4 - 12 DIN — for strong, smooth recreational skiers.
‘Uniquely provides a decisive mix of musculoskeletal integrity, anti-pre-release, and powerful edge-control. No other binding has it.
• Additional, lateral-heel release.
The most frequent injury-mechanism in alpine skiing, today, is the Slip-Catch scenario — causing ACL, MCL, meniscus, tibial-plateau, and/or femoral-condyle injury. Additional lateral-heel release mitigates — never completely eliminates — these injuries in alpine skiing involving shaped-skis. Special, scientifically (peer-reviewed and approved) recommended release-settings for the additional mode of lateral-heel release are also provided by Howell Ski Bindings. See chart in photo gallery, above.
• Same core technology as Howell Planet-B — but with different release settings and housings made of engineering-grade resins.
• Off-center release-fulcrums in all 3 modes of release — lateral-toe, vertical-heel, lateral-heel —decouple ski-flex from release — provide powerful anti-pre-release.
• Industry-leading elasticity further provides powerful anti-pre-release.
• Extra-wide 8-point lateral boot contact — toe & heel, top & bottom — provide powerful edge control.
• Strong. Pure alpine. No pins.
• ACL, MCL, meniscus, tibial-plateau, femoral-condyle integrity. Proven biomechanically.
• Low 21.5mm standheight mitigates cumulative stress on the ACL, MCL, meniscus, tibial-plateau, femoral-condyles. Patented.
Details:
Toe and heel housings are made of high-strength, engineering-grade, non-hydroscopic, plant-based, Nylon-11 with 40% long glass fibers.
Non-corroding, 303 stainless-steel inner workings provide durable, reliable, long-term function.
Utility-patented, low, 21.5 mm stand-height reduces cumulative, long-term, stress on ACL, MCL, meniscus, tibial-plateau, and femoral condyles. In the alternative, low stand-height can allow the addition of race-plates (not included) while meeting FIS racing-rules.
0°-ramp angle provides natural athletic balance, independently of boot sole length.
Adjustable toe-cup height provides solid boot-interface.
Floating Mounting System mitigates mounting-screw pull-outs & provides natural ski flex.
GripWalk sole or ‘standard alpine sole’ compatible. Both options included. We recommend against GripWalk boots — to provide tibia-plateau integrity.
Extra AFD’s (anti-friction pads) and low-friction heel-pad / brake-treadles — attachable with simple re-mounting of toe or heel. Makers can become Howell-Certified; otherwise, see your favorite ski shop for Howell-Certified service (which can be accomplished on-line).
Deep retracting brake-arms provide maximum edge-angle without boot-out’s.
Anticipated compliance with all DIN/ISO international safety standards (DIN/ISO 9462, ISO 9465, ISO 11087, ISO 8061) as well as ‘standard industry practice‘ for anti-pre-release and durability.
Also included:
Individually tested and calibrated.
Makers can become Howell-Certified; otherwise, see your favorite ski shop for Howell-Certified service (which certification can be accomplished on-line).
5 Year Limited Warranty.
2 brake retainers for edge/base-prep (included).
2 sets of ski-brakes: 70-80mm (included); 80-90mm (optionally ordered)**.
Precision metal mounting jig; 4.1mm-Ø x 9.0mm length DIN-standard drill-bit; 4.1mm-Ø DIN-standard tap (included).

_____________________
** Howell Ski Bindings company is against (a) ski waist widths greater than 90mm, AND against (b) all 'pin-bindings' (except Trab TR2; and Shift, though do not fall with Shift bindings while in the touring-mode, and Shift bindings are not with ACL-integrity) — due to their association with severe, high-energy, tibia-plateau fractures. Market saturation of pin-bindings and fat-skis match the increase of severe tibial-plateau fractures. The high-energy nature of this type of fracture often involves multiple bone-fragments, difficult surgical reconstruction, and 10 to 15-months of aggressive rehabilitation. Fat skis and/or pin-bindings on firm snow are a serious problem for the sustainability of our beautiful sport. (‘Pin-bindings’ are hardly “tech”.)
